We’ve learned a lot about improving organic search results over the past year and operationalizing this knowledge in a scalable way. Our search marketing reporting system provides us weekly keyword tracking for SERPs for all clients along with other key search marketing data. In addition, we’ve put in place a systematic process to record and track all changes that enables us to measure results against consistent benchmarks. Getting this in place took some time; both to give us enough aggregate data to be significant, and to have enough cycles of making changes and measuring impact to develop proven techniques. At this point it’s in place and provides us a very strong platform for tracking, measuring and ultimately driving consistent results from our SEO efforts.
There are a number of optimizations we’d like to make to your site that should result in higher placement in SERPs. As a first step we want to make sure we’ve got the right focus in terms of your local keywords.
REQUESTED ACTION
Make a list of 10-15 cities or locations in order of priority that are important to your business. When you think about priority, consider where your current clients are located and where new ones are most likely to come from. This may or may not be the largest cities on the list. Most times the bigger the city or metro-area the more difficult ranking first page is. You might be better off winning first page position for 3-6 important sources of business in the near term. If we have questions or concerns about you list, we’ll let you know.
In addition, if you have any services in areas that are important for your business beyond core IT and Managed Services be sure to let us know.

With this updated list we’ll do a series of optimization steps to improve your SEO. These involve meta data elements, tuning the copy to get the right keyword density and some keyword page linking between pages on your site and other techniques.
This is just a step in a process. SEO is never set and forget. There’s more on the way and we’ll keep you posted. What’s important at this stage is to make sure we’ve get the right keyword targets and the site optimized for those keywords.
